6 Great Talks from Node.js Interactive 2015

I was lucky enough to be able to attend Node.js Interactive this year. Put on by the Node.js Foundation, the vendor-neutral event covered everything from web development to tips for managing applications to future Internet of Things possibilities. Featuring speakers from companies including Intel, IBM, New Relic, Microsoft and many more, the two-day conference was a must-attend for experienced node.JS developers and new node.JS initiates alike.

Below you’ll find my six favorite talks in no particular order, and thanks to Node Interactive, you’ll be able to watch videos of the talks as well. Enjoy and see you next year!

The World is Being Reinvented in Code – Jason Gartner, IBM

The next killer app is going to be an API.

Node.js and npm by the Numbers – Ashley Williams, NPM

Did you know the number of new packages published to NPM daily is about 2x the speed of a skydiver diving headfirst (in MPH)? I didn’t. Now I know.

The State of Electron – Max Ogden and Jessica Lord, DAT Project

Build desktop apps with node.js. YAY!

Offline-First Apps with PouchDB – Bradley Holt, IBM Cloudant

You’ve heard of mobile first; but have you considered offline first?

Node.js Performance Optimization Case Study – Bryce Baril, NodeSource

There were quite a few talks on performance and profiling tools. This was the one I enjoyed the most!

Building Interactive npm Command Line Modules – Irina Shestak, Ladies Learning Code

No matter what you’re building, always be thinking of the end user. Bonus points for the use of wombats in this presentation.

While these talks happened to be my favorites, there were plenty of other great talks from the conference. I’m looking forward to trying out some new tools I learned about at the conference and am already excited about next year!
